They’re Real Movie Fans
Wearing a white T-shirt and carrying a backpack, Bruno Bancalari, the director of the Mexican documentary CHILDREN OF THE COAST, selected for the Belt and Road Film Week, appeared at Shanghai Film Art Center early in the morning. Mistaken for a regular moviegoer by the media, he cheerfully explained that he was eager to be a “real movie fan”. “I need to check the screening schedule and catch as many great films as I can during my visit to Shanghai to learn more.”

Bruno Bancalari expressed pride and fortune in having his documentary make its international debut at the 赌博app. “It's amazing to be in this beautiful country with a different culture. I've known about the Shanghai International Film Festival for a long time and never imagined I’d bring my work here one day.”
Despite being in Shanghai for less than 24 hours, he already felt the warmth and hospitality of the locals. “I also hope everyone enjoys my film so I can bring it to more places.” He shared that he had met some filmmakers from Latin America and looked forward to further communication with Asian filmmakers. “I'm ready to embrace this place and learn from everyone here!”
Indonesian filmmaker Ajish Dibyo, who arrived in Shanghai on the morning of June 14, represented the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. Without even checking into his hotel, he rushed to the screening venue. His plans for the day included watching the Spanish film CLOSE YOUR EYES from “New from Auteur”. “A friend recommended this film to me, and I believe it will be very interesting. I’m also excited about the experience of watching movies at the Shanghai International Film Festival.”

From an industry perspective, Ajish Dibyo was most impressed by the number of films and screenings at the festival. He remarked that the scale of 461 films was unimaginable and hoped to learn as much as possible about the market and filmmaking here. He also looked forward to exploring Shanghai’s cityscape and cultural heritage. “I'm very excited!”

Bring More Joy to Moviegoing
In addition to international filmmakers, the screening venues were packed with enthusiastic moviegoers. This year, many venues responded to the needs of film fans by offering luggage storage and selling cultural products. Wang, a student who had just finished her college entrance exams, arrived early from Nanjing with her white suitcase. She planned a three-day movie-watching trip, including animations like LOOK BACK and THE CASE OF HANA & ALICE, as well as 4K versions of BASTARDEN and MONEYBALL. “I’ve wanted to come before but never had the time. This year, I finally made it! I got up at 6 am, reached Nanjing Station by 7, arrived here by 9, and after a meal, I’m ready to watch movies.”

Han, a Beijing resident attending the festival for the third time, asked friends to help him secure tickets for over 20 films. “I managed to get tickets for the ones I most wanted to see! Today, I’ll start with two Japanese animations at the Majestic Theatre, followed by SE7EN in the evening. Tomorrow, I’ll watch even more.” Before the screenings, Han purchased badges, ticket holders, and other cultural products, stamping them with beautiful composite stamps. “I think this year’s designs are fantastic. I bought a ticket book as a souvenir of this festival.”

At the entrance of Shanghai Film Art Center, many stamp collectors queued up for the postal machine stamp bearing the “Shanghai International Film Festival” mark. Mr. Zhou, who traveled from Suzhou, brought postcards and envelopes related to movies and Shanghai’s urban features to get stamped with the festival’s opening date. “I also plan to watch a movie, while pursuing my hobby.”
Mr. Chou, a Movie Buff
“City of Film” is the theme of this year’s 赌博app. With the accelerating integration of commerce, tourism, culture, and sports, the ways to experience the festival have become more diverse. Many moviegoers mentioned that besides watching films, buying merchandise, and collecting posters, they also hoped to enjoy coffee near the screening venues, encounter filmmakers, and visit different filming locations. No matter how they choose to experience it, the endless possibilities of the “City of Film” are being discovered.
